Running for Santa Barbara
Unified School District Board
I feel strongly that good education is a fundamental human right of every child today. I’ve lived in Santa Barbara for almost half of my life, and my wife was raised here and attended the Santa Barbara Unified School District schools in her youth. The sense of community and family is initially what drew me to Santa Barbara, and my goal is to serve this community with pride and work to keep it the great place that it is.
I began my City Council run last year based upon safety at our elementary school. I want to serve to protect the children from off-campus threats that the city, the police, and the district would not address and to this day have yet to address.
Children, their education, and their safety are a top priority for me. I live my life for my children, and I firmly believe that children are our future and must be protected and guided.
I come from a school teaching family. My father taught elementary school in New York state for almost 50 years, and my two sisters are also public school teachers.
Our family company started the Teacher's Fund, a nonprofit that donates money directly to the teacher for the classrooms. Last year we funded $85,000 direct to teachers, and to date, we have raised $1.7 million. 100% of the money donated goes directly to the teachers for the classrooms.
I understand the importance of teachers in our world, and I understand the challenges and what they need to succeed.
I’ve also been very active in our schools for nine years, serving on the PTO board, being chair of Science Night, teaching science and FOSS science for seven years in the classrooms, helping children read in the classroom, as well as chaperoning field trips, including CIMI and outdoor school.
I find it extremely rewarding having the opportunity to surround myself with the youth of today and watching and helping them discover the world around them. There's nothing better than to watch children grow into young adults, except being there to help them achieve their success.
I am also proud to accept the endorsement of the Sheriff Deputy Association. The Sheriff's understand that without quality education the school to prison pipeline will never end. Help us end this path for our youth.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT BRIAN
ELEANOR BAUMBACH, RN
I have known Brian for all of his life and have no qualms vouching for his integrity. He also has the inner qualities of humor and compassion which I feel is a necessary qualification when working for and with the public. Brian is also a go-getter.
He has achieved many personal accomplishments which assures me that, if elected, he'll be able to do the same for his constituents.
I have known Brian for several years. He is a loving father and husband. Brian has spent countless hours dedicated to his children and the school which they attend on the Mesa. He has done so much to make our school and community better for our children.
ANDY ERIKSON, LOCAL BUSINESSMAN
He was about the most active and best dad at Washington school in volunteering for events, organizing fundraising and being there when you needed him. He lives for his kids and he knows and cares about the Mesa and wants to improve on our little slice of heaven. He’s local and honest and doesn’t care about politics, he just wants to solve local issues like kids safety and homelessness.
